Microsoft Office Delve utilizes the collaborative environment, where Office 365 flourishes and brings the information that you need, when you need it. When you are working on documents with your team, Delve remembers what you've been working on and is able to show you relevant documents that you may need at that time.
Delve is built on a technology that is called Machine learning. It is defined as
“a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to grow and change when exposed to new data."
Machine learning is an exciting technology with the applications being truly limitless. From self driving cars, to upright walking humanoids, to Google predicting what you want to search for, Machine Learning is what is responsible for these impressive feats of technological prowess.
Office Delve can also be seen as an enterprise solution to social networking. It allows a user to search another’s name and provides them the opportunity to see what they have been working on. At this point it is worth mentioning that Delve is purely collaborative and does not in any way intend to undermine the security or privacy of the user. A user is well within their rights to mark a document as private and subsequently this will not be displayed to other users.
One of the key advantages of a tool such as this would be if you worked on a document with a co-worker in a meeting that was established via Outlook, this can be reviewed later through Delve. Items such as this would be found using the ‘Discover’ functionality, which differs to ‘Search’ as it is actively searching for relevant documents for you, without having to search for it.
