On Saturday 23rd July the team from Techware will be donning their chefs hats and aprons to help those in need in Melbournes' CBD.
In a recent article published by the Age - the full extent of the levels of homelessness in Melbourne city were revealed.
"In Melbournes' CBD there are 247 people living on the streets – a 74 per cent increase in two years."
The number of people sleeping rough in the city is a real concern with homeless numbers on the rise and a shortage of accomodation options. The article also outlines that homlessness isn't a current budget issue, which adds further complexity. Living on the streets has it's own inherent dangers and problems; personal safety, well-being, general health - the list is endless.
The Techware team decided that providing meals would be a great initiative to get behind to give back to the community.
So on Saturday 26th we will be running a kitchen at the Multicultural Hub on Elizabeth Street to provide warm and nourishing meals to those in need. To start the day the team will be cooking a three course meal and then serving from 6pm.
Another initiative that we need to mention is Cafe Smart. It's an initiative where supportive cafes' Australia wide donate $1 of each coffee sold to one of their incredible projects - click here to read about them.
You can get involved by checking out their website, finding a participating cafe near you and buying yourself a cuppa.
Techware is involved in a number of community oriented events and next month we are sponsoring the Southern Cross Kids Camp Golf Day "Out of the rough" – If you don’t know what the Southern Cross Kids Camp is about, click here to get more information.
