AI is no longer something we need to consider in the distant future. It’s already here, reshaping how we work today.
But new research shows that getting started with it is more challenging than many expected
The study gives us some interesting insights:
28% of small and medium-sized businesses say that not automating is hurting them as costs rise
Just under half (47%) say they’re not able to scale AI tools properly due to a lack of infrastructure
And the biggest factor is a lack of confidence, with 95% saying they need more training
Here’s the really telling part:
77% of leaders have no confidence that their organisation could handle AI risks like data misuse
…but 72% consider themselves to be AI experts
There’s clear enthusiasm to integrate AI. But also, a gap between knowing about it and knowing how to maximise it day-to-day.
As it stands, only two-thirds of small and medium-sized businesses use AI in very controlled environments.
Many say the technology isn’t the biggest blocker. They site a lack of training, with three-quarters of respondents also being nervous about how data is managed.
In saying that, many are still moving forward with AI.
With the potential boost to productivity and performance, three in four plan to up their investments in AI next year.
When getting on board with AI you don’t need to do it all at once. You should:
Gradually build up skills and confidence
Figure out where AI can actually make life easier
Make sure the basics (like data security) are covered before fully scaling up
Is AI on the radar for you? Or are you still figuring out where it will fit?
