There are quite a few things that people wish they could change with Windows 11, but one of the most common complaints is the taskbar.
It doesn’t work quite the way people expect it to.
Those that use smaller laptops will know what I mean 😒
On a screen with limited space, the taskbar can feel oversized and take more room than needed.
You can make the icons smaller, but not the bar itself. Which isn’t quite what people are trying to achieve.
That’s about to change.
Microsoft has suggested it may reintroduce a more compact taskbar, like the version many users preferred in Windows 10.
Meaning you’ll be able to reduce the overall size of the taskbar, not just the icons inside it.
It’s a small change, but it can make devices, where screen size matters, feel more comfortable to use.
There’s also discussion about bringing back the option to move the taskbar around the screen.
It used to be a standard feature, allowing people to place it at the top or side instead of locking it to the bottom.
To many users’ disappointment, that disappeared in Windows 11 🥺
Microsoft appears to be moving towards smaller, more frequent updates instead of saving everything for major releases.
This means user feedback can shape what comes next, and changes like this will arrive sooner.
Other updates are on the way too, including performance improvements and a cleaner Start menu, but this one stands out because people notice it straight away.
It changes something people use constantly, even if they barely notice it.
That’s often where the biggest improvements happen.
When people rely on the same tools all day, even small annoyances can reduce productivity.
Fixing those means less frustration and more productivity. It’s one big win.
