Email is still #1

Email is still #1

When it comes to business communication, we’re a bit spoilt for choice these days. With AI tools, instant messaging apps, and collaboration platforms, you’d think email would be on the way out, right?

Not anytime soon 📧

The State of Business Email report is based on insights from over 4000 IT leaders around the world. The 2025 report shows that now more than ever, email is still the backbone of business communication.

😮Surprised! Let’s look at why that is.

Even though workplaces are more digitally connected than ever, they have also become more fragmented in many cases.

Each department has its own preferences and favourite tools 🛠️ Asana may be Marketing’s go to, whereas Operations may spend most of their time on monday.com, and IT is humming along on Jira. And of course, everyone’s on Teams or Zoom.

But these tools don’t always align seamlessly across the whole company. Adoption can vary depending on team size, departments, and how tech-savvy people are.

That can lead to a breakdown in communication. With things falling through the cracks because of the many different channels and rules.

That’s why businesses still fall back on email when accountability and clarity really matter.

📩 It’s traceable (you can refer back to it later)

📩 It’s a long-standing reliable record

📩 It works across all departments, locations and devices

About half of all internal and external communication is still done via email. This allows teams to have accurate records that can be audited if needed.

Instant messaging has had a surge in adoption in recent years and it’s great for quick chats. But when something needs to be logged and made crystal clear, email is still the winner 🏆

So…even though AI and collaboration platforms are changing how we interact, they are a long way off from replacing the one channel that ties it all together.

Is your business more reliant on instant messaging, or do you still use email as your backbone?
