The advice around logins has been the same for years:
- Make passwords long
- Make them complex
- Don’t reuse them
- Add another layer like a code sent to your phone
It’s effective, but not always simple.
Cyber security experts are now changing the advice they give to businesses.
The new recommendation is to move away from passwords completely.
And use, Passkeys
If you’re not familiar with them yet, it’s pretty simple.
Instead of entering a password, your device confirms your identity.
This is done either by fingerprint, facial recognition, or the pin you use to unlock your device.
You no longer need to type, or remember passwords
It’s done with a pair of digital keys. One stays on your device, the other is with the service you’re logging into.
Because the keys only work as a pair, they’re much harder to steal or reuse elsewhere.
Most cyber-attacks are a result of stolen login details. It could be from visiting a fake website, a phishing email, or a password from an old breach that’s being reused.
Passkeys remove that weak point
There’s no password to guess, steal, or accidentally hand over.
Even if you’re directed to a fake site, the passkey won’t work there.
It’s a rare upgrade that makes logging in both safer and easier. For better security and user experience at the same time.
Users can log in easier while benefiting from stronger protection in the background.
Major platforms are adopting it quickly, with many now building it in by default.
